Five C – Factors Impacting Knowledge Creation and Distribution

Many factors impact the creation and flow of knowledge. While content is often holds a prominent position in the knowledge creation process (we seem to value artifacts of knowledge - books, journals, images - more than the process or conversation elements)...many additional factors impact how knowledge flows through an organization: conduits, conversations, context, and control. This presentation explores these factors in the overall knowledge creation and dissemination cycle. To listen to him you need Adobe Flash Player (version 7 or later). Knowledge and Learning

This short presentation presents knowledge as moving from static and structured - to volatile and emergent. In order to function in complex knowledge environments, we need to move to a network model of learning - where the understanding of the whole is distributed across a network of individuals. To learn and explore (or create) knowledge also requires an understanding of the context of use...so that we are providing a learning approach that meets the distinct needs of each situation, not a "template" response. Knowing Knowledge Book Is Available Now

Knowing Knowledge, book exploring the changing context and characteristics of knowledge is now available: http://www.knowingknowledge.com/book.php. The book explores how changes with knowledge impact organizational approaches to learning and competitiveness in global markets. Learning and knowledge provide organizations the foundation to achieve strategic goals and objectives. The challenges are similar - whether it's a university preparing a learner to compete in a complex marketplace, a corporation entering a new marketplace, or a manager seeking to better foster knowledge sharing - individuals today need the skill set to function in complex, rapidly developing environments. Decisions made today, based on yesterday's outdated knowledge, may be disastrous. We require current knowledge at the point of need. When markets shift overnight, new threats emerge with competitors, or new opportunities arise in local markets, our ability to stay informed is more important than what we currently know. Redesigning our learning and knowledge sharing spaces and structures is a critical challenge (and thereby opportunity) facing companies today. Knowing Knowledge provides the context and potential solutions in moving forward with this important discussion.
